HookLabPrivacy Policy

Your privacy is fundamental to how we build and operate HookLab. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Effective: February 2, 2026

1. Introduction

HookLab is an AI-powered content intelligence platform for LinkedIn, developed and operated by Appcific Technologies Pty Ltd (“Appcific”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), an Australian company based in Sydney, NSW.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use HookLab's website, application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By using HookLab, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
  • Payment information: Billing details processed securely through our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full credit card number.
  • Content you create: Draft posts, notes, and content you input into HookLab for analysis or scoring.
  • Communications: Messages you send to our support team.

2.2 Information from LinkedIn

When you connect your LinkedIn account, we access data through LinkedIn's official APIs with your explicit authorization via OAuth 2.0. We collect:

  • Profile information: Your name, headline, profile picture, and follower count.
  • Post content: The text, media, and metadata of posts you have published on LinkedIn.
  • Post analytics: Engagement metrics including impressions, reactions, comments, shares, saves, and video analytics as provided by LinkedIn's Member Post Analytics API.
  • Follower insights: Aggregated follower demographics and growth data.

We only access data that you have explicitly authorized through LinkedIn's permission system. We do not access your private messages, connections list, or any data beyond the scopes you approve.

2.3 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and actions taken within the Service.
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
  • Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
  • Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management, and optional analytics cookies to improve the Service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service: Analyze your LinkedIn content performance, generate AI-powered insights, score draft posts, and deliver personalized recommendations.
  • Improve AI models: Your content and analytics data help us improve the accuracy of our scoring and recommendation algorithms. We use aggregated, anonymized patterns — not your individual content — to train our models.
  • Personalize your experience: Learn your writing voice and content preferences to deliver tailored suggestions.
  • Communicate with you: Send service updates, security alerts, and (with your consent) product news.
  • Process payments: Manage subscriptions and billing.
  • Ensure security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
  • Comply with legal obligations: Meet applicable laws and regulations.

4. AI and Automated Processing

HookLab uses artificial intelligence to analyze your content and provide insights. This includes:

  • Content analysis: AI classifies your posts by topic, format, hook type, and tone to identify performance patterns.
  • Predictive scoring: AI evaluates draft posts and estimates likely engagement based on patterns learned from your historical performance.
  • Voice learning: AI analyzes your writing style to deliver suggestions that match your personal voice.
  • Competitive analysis: AI processes publicly available content from creators you choose to track.

Your content may be processed by third-party AI providers (such as Anthropic's Claude API) to generate analyses and recommendations. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We ensure all AI providers meet our data protection standards.

We do not sell your content to AI providers. Your data is used solely to deliver the Service to you.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers: Cloud hosting (AWS), payment processing (Stripe), AI processing (Anthropic), and analytics providers who help us operate the Service. These providers are bound by data processing agreements.
  • Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice to you.
  • With your consent: When you explicitly authorize sharing with a third party.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Asia-Pacific (Sydney) region. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
  • Access controls and authentication requirements for all systems
  • Regular security assessments and monitoring
  • Minimal data retention — we only keep data as long as necessary to provide the Service

While we take all reasonable precautions, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data as follows:

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active, and for up to 30 days after deletion to allow recovery.
  • LinkedIn analytics data: Stored in accordance with LinkedIn's API data retention requirements. Member-level social activity data is retained for no more than 48 hours; organization-level data for up to six weeks.
  • AI-generated analyses: Retained while your account is active to provide historical insights.
  • Payment records: Retained as required by tax and financial regulations.
  • Log data: Retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes.
  • Withdrawal of consent: Revoke consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • Disconnect LinkedIn: Revoke HookLab's access to your LinkedIn data at any time through your LinkedIn account settings or within HookLab.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@appcific.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Australian Privacy Act Compliance

As an Australian company, we comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with these requirements.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), we also process your data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

10. International Data Transfers

Your data is primarily stored in Australia (AWS Sydney region). However, some processing may occur in other jurisdictions through our service providers (e.g., AI processing, payment processing). Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including data processing agreements and, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Children's Privacy

HookLab is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the effective date. For significant changes, we will provide additional notice via email or in-app notification.

Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
